Home Focus Areas Environmental Concerns

It was among the founders of the League, one of the oldest conservation organizations in the country, that fish and wildlife issues were wholly intertwined with environmental quality. They recognized that if the water was dirty the fishing would be bad. The saw the effects of the loss of habitat and trees had on all wildlife species. Our founders motto was simple: "Save and Restore Wildlife, Clean Water, Good Soil, More Trees."

The League has been at the forefront of environmental issues since it's founding in 1908. Working for clean air and water and better habitat is deeply rooted in our members and our member clubs. To work toward those goals we work with a broad variety of people and groups, both in Ohio and nationally. Our relationships with the farming community and with state and national elected representatives allow the League to work to find consensus and progress on difficult issues.

Our emphasis in the Environmental Concerns area is:
          - Farmer Relations
          - Legislative Issues and Relations
          - National Issues and how they affect Ohioans
          - Wetlands Loss and Restoration Issues
          - Habitat Loss and Improvement Issues
          - Development Issues, both urban and rural

Our Board of Directors recognizes that there is a balance that needs to be maintained when dealing with environmental and national issues versus the front line issues of Ohio's angling, hunting and outdoors enthusiasts community. The League's goal is to do what is best for our sporting community and, by doing that, do what is best for future generations.
